TEAM EIGHT NEWS:

English - Mrs. Boyer:
In English, we are currently working on our persuasive unit.  The students will have a choice of 4-5 topics to choose from to write a persuasive essay about, and will be conducting research in the computer lab to support their reasons.  We have been having some great discussions in class about various topics: video games, year round school, and pesticides.   Ask your child their thoughts on these issues, as they have given some great debating points in class!

Science - Mrs. Hanaman
Interactions of matter, chemical bonding and chemical reactions are the focus in science class. We will finish this topic in the next 5 weeks and will be moving onto waves-both sound and light.

Social Studies - Mr. Winebrenner
In social studies, we are studying World War I.  World War I projects were due Friday, January 20th. They are being graded right now, so check PowerSchool or ask your student about the results. The projects look amazing! I'm very excited about the projects I've graded so far. We'll be concluding our World War I unit in the next couple of weeks.

Reading - Mrs. Easton
All students are reading the novel THE MISFITS.  This is a terrific book that teaches students the effects of name-calling and how to make a difference.

Math - Mrs. Moran
All math classes took the high school math placement test.  I was very pleased with the effort put forth by the students on this test.  Pre Algebra is exploring two important ideas:  Pythagorean Theorm and square roots.   Algebra is working with systems of equations.
